Your wedding hair and makeup trial is a crucial part of the planning for your special day. Much has been written about what you can expect from your trial, so the purpose of this post is to clarify what will happen in a trial with me.
How soon before my wedding day should I book my wedding hair and makeup trial?
Your trial is usually scheduled between three-to-six months before your wedding, however the window between the trial and your wedding day can be a lot narrower than that. I recommend that you leave as much time as possible between your trial and your wedding day as you’ll have plenty to do in the run up to the big day. Once you’ve booked the venue, it’s time to book yourself in.
Should I come to my trial with ideas?
You can do, but i’d say it’s more important for you to come with an open mind. Calling the day a trial is probably the wrong word for it. It’s not so much a trial run as an exploratory session to try out some styles to see which suits you best. I’ll try a number of hairstyles, and or makeup looks with you until you’re satisfied.
Do I need to bring anything to the trial?
If you have a clear idea about a theme for your wedding, then that would be good to know. If you’ve chosen the dress itself then you’re welcome to bring it with you – or at the very least a photo of it – front and back please! If you’re considering hair accessories then this would be the time to declare it, if you’ve chosen them already then it would be a good idea to being them along.
Should I wear my hair and makeup to the trial as I would usually?
You certainly could as that will give me an idea of what your current style is. Either way I would ask you to have freshly washed and dry hair, as it’s better to work with and start with a blank canvas.
Can I bring my friends?
It’s common for brides-to-be not to, but feel free to bring along one or more friends or relatives to their wedding hair and makeup trial, and their support and point of view can be extremely helpful. But a word of warning, too many opinions can be more of a hindrance than a help!
How long will it last?
There’s no time limit. I’ll try out a number of styles with you and develop ideas until you’re happy with the result. It can take an hour, but usually it’s somewhere between 2-3 hours.

What happens after the trial?
I’ll give you some information about your chosen hairstyle and or makeup, and arrange a timetable with you to ensure there’s plenty of time on the day.
